Stall Setup and Development

For the creating and setting up the stall of our market, it was important to try to follow the run sheet we created in the documentation but this didn’t quite go to plan. We got there at 5pm where everyone in our market had started to set up their individual stalls. Since me and other team mates couldn’t attend the health and safety meeting at the beginning we had our own little meeting with Jen to discuss all things used in our stall that requires health and safety attention. This is where we talked about the installation and the handing of the teepee and decorations regarding fire hazards with the distance away from the lights. Even though we went over the time we said in our run sheet, I believe the team felt overall happy with the result. We didn't originally stick with our original layout of how our stall was going to be because lots of factors that effected the layout of the stall. Even though we dint go with our original plan, everything worked out for the better.
There were lots of things that happened within the time we were given, I feel breaking this down into sections will make the understanding of the process easier.

INSTALLMENT OF TEEPEE

In our proposal and project plan, we need to use something to install our teepee up to the ceiling to create the drape effect that we wanted. When we first started talking about ideas of how to hangings in the earlier weeks, Josh our group tutor suggested to us to use the wire frames that are used in the Exposure Exhibition. When talking to Jen on the night, I had made sure that as the construction person I had made sure that I asked Gus (a workshop technician) to get the right wrench to be able to get the wire frame down. I was also advised that the wire frame will be secure when it seems like its strong enough to hold your weight. There was one available in the room next to where are market was happening, so with this I decided to get a ladder and unbolt it down. Since I was too short I had to get Josh to come help me take down and put up the wire mesh. It was quite dodge seeming at one point as it seemed to fall when trying to put it back up the first time but after trying again and me holding one end and Josh tightening the nuts on the other end, we could get it tight enough to seem like it could hold my weight. It was very helpful having Josh who was tall enough to reach up to the roof. Just using fish line the teepee was attached to the wire frame and multiple places to allow strength and support.

TEEPEE CREATING

For the original plan of creating our teepee, Antonia oversaw creating and making the teepee for the stall. We ran into a problem of not having the hula-hoop that was needed for us to create an open drape effect like we wanted. Quickly I decided to get a bike-tire which could create a good solution since they didn’t have a hula-hoop. At first, we were unsure as to using the tire but came up with the idea of making a spider web type structure with fish line across the tire in all directions to create a strong center point that we could put through the top of the teepee then use it to be hung. We also put little holes in the top of the fabric then threaded through the fish line to bring the fabric to one point. This helped to create the tent effect once again to help it drape from a point. Overall I think that the bike tire work well considering the circumstances.

DECORATION DEVELOPMENT

For decorations, we wanted something that really matched the theme of relaxation and that was very fitting with the tent theme as well. For this we thought about lanterns and having soft light with bean bags to help create this relaxing effect. Sammy went and bought three big pink lanterns which were used in the entrance of our stall but we felt that there was more needed to create this nice decorative area. I had some little lantern lights that we were thinking of using to create the soft lighting but since I couldn’t get them checked by Uli in the 3D workshop, I was unable to use them in the market. This overall didn’t affect the stall massively. Sammy and I went to the warehouse and grabbed what we could find which we felt fit with our theme. From this we got some pom-pom thread that was of pastel colours that we thought could be used like a draping decoration instead of pink streamers and some pink paper flowers and smaller, pink lanterns. Hanging of the decorations wasn’t too hard as I was just able to reach the electrical metal railing to tie fish line and the pom-pom thread to. I made sure that they were low enough from the lights to comply with health and safety. With the beanbags and the decorations, it really started to come together as a stall and everything worked really well together. For the signage we used a sign that Connor created and light boxes which said suggestive comments like "Come have a Yarn" and the name of "Relaxation Station". The sign Connor made saying "Have a Yarn" was hung out just by a light thread which wouldn't way down the grid at all.
