Development and construction of our market stall and offering - Antonia Estall

Once our team decided that our offering would be an interactive embroidery installation we began planning how best to set our stall up. We wanted our stall to be inviting and relaxing and a completely immersive experience.

When we originally purchased the fabric from spotlight we intended to hang it from the rolls it came with to create walls which could be embroidered.  once we installed this in the space at the practice market it quickly became clear that the stall did not meet our requirements,  as it appeared boring, plain and did not create a relaxing space. because of this we collectively decided that we needed to design a better stall which would be a point of interest and the participants would want to interact with.  after a group discussion, we agreed to make a tent / tipi style design

Designing and making the tent became my responsibility. It was imperative that it was made sustainably, was large enough to be our market offering stall and looked good.

I designed a Pattern for the tent which involved creating absolutely no fabric waste, Simply putting small holes into the fabric and feeding fishing wire through and gathering it. the internal frame was then supported by a recycled bike tyre.

Overall I feel the structure of our tent worked perfectly as it created visual interest and the participants of the market interacted with the tent as well as the small pieces of fabric and embroidery hoops that we supplied as a part of our offering.
